Ah the spoils of summer…lazy days by the pool, picnics and barbeques seem to fill every weekend, cold beer and refreshing ice cream is no longer a treat but a necessity to beat the summer heat…Kids are home, staying up late and sleeping in becomes the norm…a well deserved break from the structured school year.

Its been at least a month since you’ve even put on your sneakers let alone worked out and the thought of starting up again is interrupted by a “watch me mom!” Well the kids are now back on a schedule-thank you school- and its time for you to get back on a healthy schedule of your own!

So how do you get started?

I’ve come across a fool proof plan to help you not only get started but to reach any goal-fitness or otherwise!

Anyone at any given moment can come up with at least 5 excuses why they can’t do something.  In reality it is not that they can’t but that they won’t!  Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is well…uncomfortable to say the least and can be downright frightening!  The good news is that everyone gets scared when it comes to trying something new!  I know everyone knows the person that has done everything and is more than willing to do anything new different or exciting…the thing that you don’t realize is that they were once scared of something and put that fear aside to do it…and surprise the more times you challenge yourself the easier it becomes to face that challenge!  How many times have you built up an event in your head to be so incredibly intimidating only to laugh at yourself afterwards for being afraid of nothing?  Those little inner voices-yes I have them too- can psyche us out of doing almost anything, which just leaves us disappointed and frustrated in ourselves.  In other words, we get in our own way making excuses and busying ourselves so we never have to leave our comfortable little bubble of everyday life.  We stand in our own sunshine...

The Fire Within

Your mom told you to do it, you’ve read it in all the magazines and even heard some expert on some show saying how important it is…Among all of the thousands of diets and nutrition advice out there one rule they all have in common is….EAT BREAKFAST.
 

 

Eating breakfast is quite possibly the most important change you can make when revamping your eating habits. I have had many clients amazed at how they started to drop pounds just by jump starting their metabolism every morning with a cup of yogurt or some cereal with their coffee. How can adding a meal help your body to shed pounds?-is always the question-and the answer is always the same and goes like this…

 

Think of your metabolism as a fire burning in your living room fireplace, or fire pit out back. You need to light it in the morning with some good dry wood and a bit of kindling –this is breakfast.

Ever promise yourself that you will start exercising on Monday? Only Monday never comes. Many of us create such high expectations for ourselves that we can never quite reach them. We set goals for exercising and eating right and with one little slip give up the entire week to start allover again on MONDAY!
