'Samplings of Summer' Raises $3,000 for American Cancer Society
Pike County Press 8/4/09 – The perfect weather set the stage for a successful ‘Samplings of Summer’ event last Saturday at the McAteer residence in Milford. One hundred plus people turned out to show their support of the American Cancer Society and the funds raised were $3,000. I am not only thrilled with the turn out,” said Tonyehn Verkitus of the American Cancer Society, “but am extremely grateful to Lisa McAteer for opening her home to us and the Pike Community. This event could not have happened without her generosity and kindness.”

MILFORD – PikeMoms.com announces the winner of its first website contest. Sarah Czajkowski of Milford has won two tickets to this Saturday’s ‘Samplings of Summer’ event hosted by PikeMoms.com to benefit the American Cancer Society.
“I’m thrilled about winning the contest, truly looking forward to the event,” said the 35-year-old woman after receiving the news. “Pikemoms.com is a great resource for finding information on local businesses. ‘Samplings of Summer’ is happening this Saturday, August 1, at the McAteer residence in Hickory Hills Estates, 126 Congress Road, Milford, PA. Starting at 7:00 PM there will be a live jazz trio playing poolside, an outdoor dance floor, cash bar, and fabulous food donated by Peter’s Europa House in Shohola. There will also be silent auctions, a wine bottle ring toss, balloon pop, luminaria and more. Prices are $40 per person or $75 per couple and can be purchased at the door. PikeMoms.com is a free online website providing tons of valuable information and services. The owner, Lisa McAteer, says she created the site after growing frustrated when trying to locate reputable contractors to do work at her home. "When I first moved to Milford I quickly grew tired of business owners not returning my calls and not showing up for scheduled appointments. After bugging my neighbors for the names of good plumbers, electricians and great restaurants, I decided there had to be an easier way." The Milford woman now launches this central "cyber" meeting place for people in the area to share this valuable feedback with one another.
In the PikeMoms.com Rate & Review section visitors can rate businesses from 1-5 stars and leave comments about their experiences. Parents can find a babysitter for free and those who babysit can post their contact information at no charge. Job seekers can post their resumes for free and employers can post their openings for free. "During this challenging economy I thought it was important to give locals an opportunity to advertise themselves for free and also to be able to search out local business openings without the hassles that go along with many of the bigger job sites."
PikeMoms.com features an affordable classified section where visitors can post anything for sale for just $7 per month, including real estate listings. PikeMoms.com also offers Party Entertainment featuring a spectacular variety show for kids' parties. There's a Member Perks section where visitors can cash in on fabulous savings when supporting local businesses, a blog for women to chat, an area where parents can get some local health related info called The Doctor Is In. Our Pooper Scooper Service keeps a clean environment for the little ones to play in the backyard.
McAteer adds, "Please don't let the name fool you, the site has something for everyone in Pike County, not just Moms!" Register free at www.pikemoms.com.
